Friends of Belstead Brook Park

Welcome

The Friends of Belstead Brook Park (FoBBP) is a group of local volunteers set up in 2002 who help look after the Park for the benefit of local people and wildlife.  We work closely with the Greenways Countryside Project, Ipswich Wildlife Group and other partners interested in the Park.

Where we are

Belstead Brook Park is located south of Ipswich, within the A14 boundary. It was set up in 1992 as a joint partnership between three councils. It is effectively a country park and covers about 250 acres of ancient woodland, wet woodland, ponds, meadows, reedbeds, hedges, farmed land and the Belstead Brook itself. This range of habitats supports many species including rare and protected ones including dormice, otters, bats, water voles, reptiles, kingfishers and bluebells.

The Park is easily reached by thousands of local people and acts as a gateway to the wider countryside, encouraging them to explore further via public footpaths and bridleways.

What we do

The Friends meet on the second Saturday of each month, except in November when we generally get together with other groups on the third Sunday of the month for a mega work party.

At our work parties we meet at various locations in Belstead Brook Park, either raking meadows, coppicing woodland, litter picking, repairing board walks, helping at events and cutting back vegetation along paths.
